MANY Indian students are fluent in Tamil but are unable to read, leading to fewer people taking up Tamil literature, Malaysia Nanban reported.
To address this problem, Deputy Information, Communications and Culture Minister Datuk Maglin Dennis D'Cruz proposed that Tamil be made a compulsory subject in national schools for Indian students.
“Efforts must be taken to promote and encourage our Indian youngsters to take up the Tamil language to ensure a future for the language in this country,” he said after launching the IMalaysia Let's Read campaign organised by the Malaysian Tamil Writers Association at the National Library in Kuala Lumpur.
Maglin also suggested that incentives and encouragement be given to budding Indian writers for them to produce quality books.
Sincere Thanks To Datuk Maglin Dennis D'Cruz for his concern on Tamil language and Indian Community..
